#IWD2021 Introducing Nimmy Thomas
To mark International Women’s Day 2021, we are celebrating all of the women we are lucky to work with at Ai-London. These women are making their mark on the technology industry in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, and we will be profiling each of them in their own words every day this week.
Today we introduce to you Nimmy Thomas, one of our Software Developers.
Nimmy, can you tell us more about you and your background?
For me, it started with my passion for maths. I’ve just always enjoyed the subject and it’s adaptability. It’s so relatable and the concept can be applied throughout every scenario in life! I chose to study Engineering (Information Technology) because I was intrigued by programming and what it could achieve.
My first role back in India was for an organisation called iGATE Global Solutions, who fulfilled outsourcing contracts for businesses across the world. Most of these businesses were in the Insurance domain, and as a Junior Developer I primarily did Oracle back-end coding. From here I gained so much experience and this allowed me to find a focus for what I wanted to do in my career.
What was it that led to you doing your current role?
When I moved to the UK with my Husband, I knew I wanted to find a role within the Insurance industry. I had worked closely with clients in this industry in my previous roles and therefore it felt the right fit for me. With my background in Oracle back-end coding, I was looking for a role where I would be able to put my knowledge to good use and also be able to continue learning. That was when I found the role at Ai-London!
What is it you enjoy about your current role?
I really like the environment that I work in. I have a great team around me, which always makes a big difference. I also find that there is always someone to guide you if you get stuck, which isn’t the case in every company. Our work is well defined and the Management Team gives us the confidence to deliver, knowing that they will be on hand to support us should we need it.
What are your future goals and aspirations?
Technology is always changing, especially in our field which is so dependent on the market. You need to be prepared for the constant process of learning and you have to keep your skills up to date. I have recently started my studies into back-end performance tuning, which adds another dimension to what I already do. My goal is to master this and start to put my new skills to work!
Do you have any words of advice for someone considering a role like yours?
This is the type of career where you can quite quickly see the difference that you can make and the value that you create with what you do. So if you have a fondness for the Insurance industry and you have, or are learning skills in coding, then I would definitely recommend a career like this.
And finally, who really inspires you?
I would have to say my current team. You spend so much time with the people you work with and I am lucky to have a great team around me. I know I have support and I know I have people who will help me to grow in my career.
